Interview with Apollo Ghosts

At this time, you don't need a record deal to thrive or even survive as an artist. Just ask Ghosts Apollo of Vancouver. The trio released their second album, Mount Benson, earlier this year with no distribution and without label. Glow reviews of Canada's most famous music publications and blogs soon followed by and then in June, the band heard their names called as one of the 40 artists can earn a point about a leader in the long list of Polaris Music Prize.

So, how does a band only people with the city of Vancouver are really get chosen for having one of the best Canadian made album? this question answers itself.Music can be subjective, but when several critics agree that your album deserves the definition for the prize of $ 20,000, well, I must do something wrong is certainly Ghosts Apollo.

Mount Benson may strike some as yet another indie rock album, but that kind of classification of the species prepares for the thrill, twists and turns Adrian Teacher, Jay Oliver and Amanda Panda introduction carefully the ragtag settings. all visions evoking the pavement lo-fi geology and intelligent interaction, jerk with A Bomb of raw, bent, expansive reach, Jonathan Richman anything wrong with POP style or/and The modern lovers, Apollo Ghosts turned into a concise, and multifarious gem, which are bound to pick up more steam, at the end of the year picks come rolling.

As cross Canada about the first national tour, we found a little more about the band from their fabulously named drummer Amanda Panda.

How did it feel to the long list of Polaris?
Frankly, it was a surprise.As far as we know, we were the only area where unlabeled. we were satisfied that the judges enjoyed our music.

The album, Mount Benson, was never a proper release, despite the recognition of Polaris. changed many things for you?
We really enjoy self-releasing our own music and will continue to do so in the future. We had some great labels some music, such as Geographing records, records Catbird and Scotch tapes.

Say the wink Polaris brought the band a wider exposure?
Not really sure. In terms of record sales, I would say no. I think outside of Vancouver (our home), we may have sold 20 or 30 records in Canada.

What was the original plan to release the album?
Microsoft has released the album on 31 March, my grandfather's birthday.We pressed 500 copies on vinyl. appearance release in Vancouver was really fun: was Cryptozoology thematic party.

I have read that the album has been pirated, which is how many people actually hearing it.Should you feel a little flattered that people fell in love with illegal entry.
Yes, very flatteed.All our album is torrents. If people do not want to buy the record, which is nice.We simply want to enjoy the music.We are not in this for money.

Mount Benson is said to be around Nanaimo, BC.What happened on the place that inspired you to write an album it? And where does a bathtub exwra?stiki-foot fall?
The album is based around the Nanaimo, b.c. is Adrian Teacher homeland is an inspiring place because of all the colourful characters. had a mayor that dressed in a suit Pirate opening bars. with the bathtub exwra?stiki-leg is our first record if you listen carefully.

Apollo Ghosts are a new split EP with divine Prophet. what made you decide to record covers how did you can select which songs to record?
Favorite movie of Jay is the Minutemen, so for this reason we did that. we love Monks and and the Vaselines. Bought a four-channel, drank a few beers and recorded a couple of hours was fun!

You make a proper Canadian tour of what to expect from an instance of Apollo Ghosts people?
Will play in our hearts and make many mistakes!

Interview: Baby Eagle

You may recognise the upper face or even the name Baby Eagle, if you are familiar with Canada (former?), the hardest working band Constantines. Steve Lambke has familiar presence in the country for our indie rock, now an official decade mainly because of his tenure as the guitarist/vocalist/songwriter with the disadvantages. But for the last half-decade has occupied Lambke leisure as a rustic troubadour in accordance with the Baby Eagle.

After two estimate releases through external record-Eagle Baby 2006 and 2007 No Blues, Lambke brought the third and final attempt Baby Eagle on his own label, you will have Changed records, this GMP with Daniel Romano and Ian Kehoe of attack in black. as with the previous album, Dog Weather finds some friends Lambke reaching (Romano, and Jimmie shotgun, and David Trenaman and Colleen Collins Construction & destruction) to flesh out the songs, this time on a lakeside home record in the middle of nowhere.

With Dog Weather, songwriting of Lambke has undergone some changes as a result of both participants and rustic environment. There is a clear shift from the katadynasteymeni melancholy album one and two in a much sunnier time, as well as a boost to the aid as Lambke and co have channeled Crazy Horse, linking and treading all parties the Big Muff pedal.

This week we're celebrating the release of Dog Weather and prepping for an extensive tour of cross-Ontario in September, Steve answered some questions about the new album, as well as the future of the Constantines.

For each album you've collected with different musicians can help you. How did you end up fitting the movie that makes Dog Weather?
Shotgun Jimmie played on last and we played together in Sackville shows since I moved here Jimmie in barrels and my electric guitar. Dan and I played together shortly when we both happened to live in Montreal, before I moved from the East and went back to Ontario and had recorded the Baby Eagle/attack on black Division together. I would like someone to play lead and the great guitar player Dan. David and Colleen of construction and destruction, we are recording at home and I'm a fan of records. Dave came to play more than the bass and Colleen added some minor bits in two melodies.

How living in Sackville has changed as a songwriter and has to change the perspective that you had when you were in Guelph or in Toronto.
Yes, each country may be motivated by different things, local languages, monuments and new experiences. Some of the record was written when I live in Montreal, and some of the elements of life is written into the songs, simple things like going to the corner store to buy beer or wine, and not, as you know, for the provincial implementation of warehouse. Or, Sackville, say the tide, fuzzy shipyards, old sitapothikwn. But these are sometimes only superficially and not necessarily what I believe that the songs are actually about.

The album was recorded in a rural home near a lake.Four friends who in the middle of nowhere.Any stories to tell?
We recorded so quickly! We were there only three days.Jimmie leaving for a couple of months on tour, Dan leaving for an attack on the black navigation. we did this with the bits little time we had kids learning the songs on the ground, set out rules really quick, recording all live off the floor.We recorded in construction and home studios, quarantine, port Greville, Nova Scotia on the Minas Basin, Bay of Fundy from was cold in the House.There were wood fires in the kitchens and wearing lots of sweater.Jimmie invented color: "Chaldren"-happy black.

Was this group of musicians that you want to activate your guitars and fuzz up?
I was certainly heading in this direction, and a louder sound was certainly to be part of these new songs, but the record sounds this way is because of the musicians who played on it.Although we had never played together before I felt like a band, and I believe that we play as a movie.

Your sound is a little happier on Dog Weather from the previous albums.It was something that reflects?
I do not know how to respond to the last record that was truly internal and this record is definitely more relevant with the external, physical world, there is joy, course.

I released the album you've Changed records, the label that you started with Daniel and Ian's attack in black. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of working for yourself?
I am excited about this because we are together, playing with the records of the other, helping to promote each other, given the business for ourselves, building relationships. the Downside rather lack of external resources to design, but I like the idea of placing art in the media, so try not to think of it as a negative.

Finally, there are rumours about the Constantines ongoing substantial or even teams. What is the current status of the zone; believe there will be another Constantines record?
An indefinite-length clear substantial. Sounds like a break until actually I have no idea if there will be another record.
